My Philosophy
My Philosophy:
Applying to college does not have to be a four year process nor is it a package deal.
You cannot package a child for college.
It is not a mathematical equation; it is different for each candidate.
Each candidate is unique and will prove successful presenting him/herself honestly.
This is an exciting time in your life; the pressure does not have to suck the fun out of it.
Writing your college essay could be an innovative, cathartic, and inspirational time.
There is no need to fret writing more than one essay, although sometimes you are able to adapt your original essay to another topic or word count, other times you must write a new one. Either situation warrants a time commitment.
Your life experiences and personality, work in tandem with your grades and standardized test scores. They are all your positive attributes.
Having someone else write your essay compromises your application. (After 15 years as a high school teacher, I know how a 17/18 year old writes at a multitude of academic levels.. yours much match your credentials and experiences to act as a positive attribute in the application process)
The essay is an important part of this trilogy… It must be captivating, genuine, and let the reader know who you are and how you will fit into the University of your Choice….. in between the lines… IT IS NOT A RESUME but a carefully woven series of true narratives of your life experiences and reactions.
The essay and long answer selections act as your unspoken interview when you do not get one in person.
Honesty and integrity go a long way in a college application.
The right college for you is not necessarily the one that has the right name.. but the one in which you will be happiest, fit in, and thrive academically, socially, and financially. The admissions directors are looking to accept candidates who will stay at their college and graduate.
